Research into the primordial triangular relationship between Architecture, Man, and Earth. A walk emerges that through architecture nestles into, cuts through and merges with the landscape of the Scheldt Valley in Dikkelvenne. The site is located not far from where I was raised, called the Sint-Christianastraat, and possesses a type of beauty that I've visited many times throughout the years. The local geography, characterized by steep slopes, causes groundwater from higher up to surface via springs, flowing into the Scheldt some 30 meters below. The architecture takes a walk through this characterful land, reinterpreting centuries-old building techniques such as rammed earth and the dry-stacking of locally quarried sandstone to create a contemporary, local style rooted in its natural environment.
